Amazing Alice’s THHN Charity Mug!

Many of you will have read about the amazing Alice Pyne and how she has become a worlwide Internet sensation overnight with her ” Bucket List” displayed on her online blog http://alicepyne.blogspot.com/

For those of you who have not yet heard about Alice she is a 15yr old young lady who has terminal cancer and a few weeks ago she set up a “Bucket List” of things she would like to do/achieve before in her words “I have to go”.

The world responded to Alice’s list and pulled together to help make as many of them as possible come true and Alice has now met Take That when she had VIP tickets to see them in concert, swam with sharks, entered her dog Mabel in to her very own regional dog show, has her own purple ipad, had her hair done, had a back massage and had her own private cinema party.

The next wish I am going to tell you about is very special to myself and to Torbay as Alice wanted to design an Emma Bridgewater mug for charity and she chose the Torbay Holiday Helpers Network (THHN) as her charity. Alice designed her mug around Faith’s Beach Hut that was very kindly donated to the THHN by Caroline & Paul Hooper who organised the beach hut in memory of their late daughter Faith who the lost to a very rare genetic condition. All profits from the sales of the mugs (£10 per mug) will go directly to the THHN in helping us award more free holidays to families who  have seriously ill and bereaved children. Below is some text taken from the Emma Bridgewater website regarding the mug:

Last month, many of you were moved by the story of Alice Pyne, a 15 year old girl who is terminally ill with cancer but who had put together a “bucket list” of things she hoped to achieve because, as she says “there are so many things I still wanted to do with my life.” Alice’s story touched people all around the world, and her blog quickly went viral after it was posted onto Facebook. She’s received hundreds of messages of support from people inspired by her courage and bravery, and is making great progress at working her way through her bucket list.

Alice and her mother have collected Emma Bridgewater pottery for years, and designing a mug was one of Alice’s goals. We were really happy to be able to help Alice, and were delighted to welcome her and her mother to our factory in Stoke on Trent. She bought a design she had created with her, and spent an afternoon working closely with us in our design studio to create a really special, sunny mug, inspired by Alice’s summer holiday last year in Torquay, organised by Torbay Holiday Helpers Network (THHN). THHN is a network of hotels and tourist attractions committed to helping give away free, action orientated holidays to seriously ill children, as well as children who are recently bereaved. Alice’s mug features a beach hut and her yellow Labrador, Mabel. She and her mother spent some happy days in the THHN beach hut, along with Mabel, and Alice wanted to reflect the happy time she spent in Torquay in her design.

Our factory will be closed for the next two weeks for the traditional “Potters Holiday”, but order one of these lovely mugs now and it will be sent to you in the week starting 18th July. The entire profit of £10 from the price of each mug will go to help other children like Alice enjoy a special holiday as we will donate it to Torbay Holiday Helpers Network.

£10 from the sale price of each of Alice’s mugs will be contributed to Torbay Holiday Helpers Network which supports families with terminally ill and recently bereaved children.

The factory is currently closed for the summer holidays so this piece will not be dispatched until the week beginning Monday 18th July. You can orders yours now and as soon as it is out of the kiln we will send it to you.

Amazing Alice Pyne & Luke Tillen

The most IMPORTANT wish on Alice’s list is to get as many people as possible on a bone marrow donor register! Last year many of you may well remember the THHN ran two walk in bone marrow donor clinics in an attempt to find a suitable donor for Alice where over 400 local people attended and joined the register! THHN ran another clinic at Hanburys Fish & Chips on the Downs Music Festival but had a very poor response, we will be organising another clinic very soon so watch this space.

Bone marrow donation is NOT a PAINFUL process any more, there are no needles involved to get yourself on the register, all you have to do is provide a saliva sample and you could save a life!

Please I urge you all to join the register and encourage all of your friends and family to do the same. If your child needed a bone marrow transplant and you could not find a suitable matching donor I am sure you would scour the streets begging people to sign up…….this is the case for many people and it should not be!! There should be a match on the register for everyone and you can help make that possible by registering and spreading Alice’s message! Please help!
