BBC’s Blast Comes To Paignton

BBC’s Blast is a network of Creative teenagers, It provides access to mentors and free events and workshops all across the UK since 2002, working mainly with young people aged from 13-19 years old.

Thursday 15th July – Saturday 17th July 2010, BBC’s Blast will be setting up camp at Clennon Valley in Paignton, to offer these free services to young people across the bay. However, spaces are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment.

Paignton Community and Sports College have just dropped out 90 spaces for other young people across the bay.
If you’re interested, please visit the BBC Blast website to apply and fill out a consent form.

BBC Blast are offering free events and workshops, like:  Scriptwriting, Radio Presenting, V-J’ing, Dancing, and Much, Much more. See below for the full list of events happening over the 3 days.

Thursday 15 July

Time Event
9am – 12.30pm Scriptwriting

Create a script from scratch for performance and recording in the afternoon Radio Play workshop. Learn how to write dialogue and tell a story without pictures.

9am – 3pm Mixed Style Animation

Into animation and want to experiment? This advanced animation workshop will give you a taste of different animation techniques which you can combine to produce your own style.

9.15am – 12.15pm Fashion Photography

Catch the latest look on camera and learn how to use a digital stills camera to capture the trends.

9.15am – 12.30pm Trendsetter

Set your own trends by designing and making your own clothes. Work with a professional fashion designer to create the next new look!

9.15am – 3.15pm VJ-ing

Really get to grips with the art of VJing and spend some time shooting and editing your own video clips, then mix them to music to create your own live video show.

9.30am – 12.15pm Hidden Depths

Explore your inner voice in this exciting spoken word/performance taster. You’ll get the chance to work with a professional poet and performer to create your own spoken word piece and develop your performance skills.

9.30am – 12.30pm Make Your Own Remix

Using the individual sound parts, learn how to remix your own version of a well-known chart hit. No experience needed!

1.30pm – 3.15pm Performance Skills

Work with a professional performance poet to learn how to use your voice and body to create a great performance.

1.30pm – 3.30pm Pop Singer

Passionate about performing? Like singing and want to take it further? Get tips on how to make your star performance!

1.45pm – 5pm Radio Play

Create drama and tell the story using voice, sound effects and music in the BBC Blast Radio Play.

1.45pm – 5.15pm Music for Film

Learn the skills involved in composing music to a piece of film from an industry professional. Working with specially commissioned footage you’ll be amazed at the difference your own sound track can make to the impact and feeling of a film!

2.30pm – 4.45pm Film Top Tips

Learn how the professionals do it in this top tips session. Find out how they get the best from their team and equipment to create great movies.

3.30pm – 5.15pm Choreography

Already dance? Work with an experienced dance choreographer to take the next steps and learn how to choreograph and perform your own dance piece.

3.45pm – 5.45pm Photostory

If you’re thinking of making your own short film, or just want to try a new and fun way of telling a story then this interactive storyboarding session is for you! Work with Photoshop expert and stills photographer Kwame Lestrade to create a unique photo story storyboard to tell your story!

3.45pm – 5.15pm Graf Art Taster

Try stencilling and graf techniques to create a BBC Blast graffiti art mural. No experience needed!

5.45pm – 6.15pm Thursday Showcase

See how much we have created during the day including dance performances, films, animations, radio broadcast and find out how you can get involved.

Friday 16 July

Time Event
9am – 12pm Special FX

Ever wondered how the special TV magic works? How can you make it look like you are floating in space, falling though the sky or sitting on a desert island.. ..experiment with TV special effects techniques in this fun session – no experience needed!

9.15am – 12.15pm Wildlife Photography

Capture the wild in a photograph! Explore the shore and learn how to photograph moving wildlife in this photography session with professional photographer, Kwame Lestrade.

9.15am – 2.30pm Fashion Recreation

Want to be a Fashion Designer? Take the next steps and learn how to create amazing cutting edge fashion out of existing garments and various scraps of material.

9.30am – 3.30pm Blast Cast

Work as part of a team to create a locally themed radio programme to be showcased on Blast’s very own radio station Blast Out Loud. Report on local events, gigs and issues that are important to you and your mates then learn how to put them together into a package suitable for radio and the web.

9.30am – 4pm Run Free

Ever wanted to try freerunning (parkour)? Working with professional freerunner Dominic Rott, learn how to take on your environment using strength, stamina and flexibility.

10am – 11.30am Be a Radio DJ

Ever wondered how they make the intros, jingles and special effects on radio shows? Wanted to introduce your favourite track on the radio? Sign up for this session and be a star of Blast Out Loud radio! No experience needed.

1.30pm – 4.30pm Film Technique

Build your film-making skills in this technical film workshop and learn how to apply them to your own film work.

1.45pm – 4pm Action Photography

Move your photography up to the next level and take shots of moving models in the parkour workshop. Working with professional photographer, Kwame Lestrade, create clear, dynamic photographs that capture the moment.

2.30pm – 5pm Animation Taster

Ever wanted to make a film like Wallace and Gromit? Here’s your chance to work with an experienced animator to take the first steps and learn some of the modelling skills behind making an animated film. No experience necessary!

3.30pm – 4.15pm Blast T-shirt Design

Use Photoshop to design and create your very own Blast T-shirt design and then print it onto a T-shirt in this taster session. T-shirts supplied and no experience needed!

4.20pm – 5.05pm Blast T-shirt Design

Use Photoshop to design and create your very own Blast T-shirt design and then print it onto a T-shirt in this taster session. T-shirts supplied and no experience needed!

4.30pm – 6pm Be a Radio DJ

Ever wondered how they make the intros, jingles and special effects on radio shows? Wanted to introduce your favourite track on the radio? Sign up for this session and be a star of Blast Out Loud radio! No experience needed.

4.30pm – 6.30pm Music Business Q&A

Ask the professionals how they got started in the music business in this Q&A session.

5pm – 6.30pm Street Dance

Learn all the latest moves and create your own street dance piece for performance in the Blast showcase.

5.15pm – 6pm Blast T-shirt Design

Use Photoshop to design and create your very own Blast T-shirt design and then print it onto a T-shirt in this taster session. T-shirts supplied and no experience needed!

Saturday 17 July

Time Event
9.45am – 12pm Radio Journalism

Go live on air with BBC Devon and Riviera FM in this radio session. Research and create news pieces and interview your sources to tell the story to the public.

10am – 1pm Live Band Experience

Work with an expert sound engineer, video director and a live band. First you’ll get the chance to learn the basics of mic-ing up and engineering a band’s live sound. Next you’ll be involved in creating a three camera live video mix of the band as they perform. No experience needed!

10.30am – 1pm Stop Frame Animation

Ever wanted to make a film like Wallace and Gromit? Here’s your chance to work with an experienced animator to take the first steps and learn some of the modelling skills behind making an animated film. No experience necessary!

10.30am – 4.30pm Make the Cut

Want to get up to speed with your editing skills? Work with an expert editor to learn the techniques and visual language used when cutting a short film. Using specially commissioned footage you’ll get the chance to make your own cut to tell the story in your own way.

10.45am – 12.45pm Music Production

Take the raw music and turn it into a hit! Learn music production techniques working with professional producers in this editing and producing session.

10.45am – 12.45pm Songwriting

Struggling with the music and the lyrics? Learn how to turn ideas into great songs and develop your writing and performing skills in this songwriting session.

2pm – 4.30pm Intro to Stop Frame Animation

Ever wanted to make a film like Wallace and Gromit? Here’s your chance to work with an experienced animator to take the first steps and learn some of the modelling skills behind making an animated film. No experience necessary!

2pm – 5pm Live Band Experience

Life’s a beach! Using Goodrington Sands as inspiration, take photographs that capture the beach lifestyle and develop your skills in action photography.

5.30pm – 6.30pm The Blast Showcase

A free performance that features the best of the workshops during BBC Blast Penzance including dance, poetry, film, animation, radio, art and live band performances.
