The organisation which is UK Wide, and run by the Department for Education since 2001, which offers general information and confidential advice for young people from the age of 13-19. (up-to 25 if someone has a disability).

Connexions Direct ‘Connects’ young people to other local specialised services that can give them a more ‘Long Term’ support – If that’s what’s needed.

Connexions Direct, operates 7 days a week, from 8am-2am. There are many ways to contact Connexions Direct.

Connexions advisers are available via Phone, E-mail, Text, On-line, Web-cam, a Moderated Chat Room, and Message board.  You may have also seen ‘Connexions Advice Centres’ in your local town, they offer a ‘Drop-In’ Centre, where you can go in and speak to an advisor directly, but the other services are available if you’re less confident about talking to someone face to face.

Connexions Direct, Offers support from Careers, Schooling, Health and Relationships, Housing, Free-Time, Money, Travel and your rights.

Torbays local connexions, In Torquay since Jan 2009 – Jan 2010, they have helped over 11,000 young people.
Connexions as a whole, have helped over 2 Million young people in England. (Excluding Ireland, and Wales).

We asked a many young people who’ve used the Connexions service, one young person Beth Bell 19 from Paignton said

“It’s a great service, I’ve used it a few times to help me get my CV looking great, and to help me look for a long time job and a career in what I want to do, I would recommend EVERY young person to go in and have a chat with an adviser, they are so friendly and helpful, and the best bit is – It’s FREE!!”

Ashley Sheppard 18 from Paignton, has also used the service a few times and said

“It’s pretty good, I’ve used them a lot and each time they’ve been helpful, given me the right information and checked that it was what I wanted to know. If you need help, or any advice, I’d get to your local connexions and speak to an adviser, they even helped me get a job!”

The Connexions service in Torquay have a lot of activities going on over the summer for young people, and at the end of this month (July 2010) they have a meeting to set up a ‘Youth’ part of Connexions, meaning Young people in the bay will be able to tell Connexions managers what they want, and what they need in their local connexions advice centres.
