Council’s Cash Boost For Pothole Repairs

Torbay Council is to receive extra money from the Government to help it repair potholes caused by this winter’s severe weather.

The council is expecting to receive an extra £130,000 following a recent announcement by Transport Secretary Philip Hammond, who said the Government would allocate an additional £100-million to councils to help repair roads damaged this winter.

Torbay’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, Cllr Dave Butt, said:

We welcome this cash boost. As in other parts of the country, we have experienced another colder than average winter. The effects of water seeping into cracks and freezing does accelerate the rate of deterioration of the highway, and this has led to an increase in the number of potholes. The extra money will be spent on a mixture of works to repair potholes and some preventative maintenance which will reduce the likelihood of holes appearing in the future.

Torbay Council is inviting people to report any potholes on the Bay’s roads to Highways@torbay.gov.uk or telephone 01803 207720.
