With the ongoing cold weather, Torbay householders are being encouraged to grab a bargain and get their homes insulated for free or at a discounted cost. A package of offers has been launched across Devon to help people keep their homes warm and make savings on fuel bills. As part of Cosy Devon, Torbay and other councils in the county have joined forces with Energy Action Devon, and E.ON, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of gas and electricity, to offer free or greatly reduced prices for loft and cavity wall insulation. Under the scheme, householders in Torbay can get a free, no obligation survey and then have their home insulated for as little as £150 or it can even be free for those 70 or over and for those in receipt of qualifying benefits; including income support and housing benefit. Discounts are available to all homeowners, private tenants and private landlords.
The scheme aims to help you save energy and money by offering significant discounts on home insulation, making homes a more healthy and comfortable place to live and helping towards government targets to reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions. The scheme also offers free benefit entitlement checks and home fire safety checks on request.
Insulating your home is one of the most effective measures householders can take to save energy, with up to one third of heat loss in a non-insulated home being through the walls and a quarter through the roof.
This means you could save up to £420 a year by having both loft and cavity wall insulation installed.
