Last-minute Gulls fans can buy Play-Off final tickets tomorrow at Old Trafford

Gulls fans can buy tickets on the day at Old Trafford

Common sense prevailed today after the Football League announced that tickets for Torquay United’s League Two Play-Off final against Stevenage Borough tomorrow will be available at Old Trafford.

Plainmoor’s ticket office has been inundated with calls and emails this week as Gulls fans attempt to seal their place at the Theatre of Dreams.

Many fans have had to endure the dreaded busy tone as they try to get through, and United were forced to create a ‘we’ll call you back’ email service.

Thankfully those who have struggled to get through need not waste any more minutes on the phone. Gulls fans that have waited until payday to purchase their tickets do not need to rush up to Plainmoor this evening as they can pay on the gate tomorrow.

The Yellows are famous for their away support compared to the modest crowds seen at Plainmoor, mainly due to the number of fans that have moved away from the Bay. Tomorrow’s attendance is expected to be swelled by these exiles as they make their own way to the home of Manchester United.

According to current ticket sales, Torquay supporters are expected to outnumber the Borough fans by two to one. As of yesterday, Stevenage had shifted 3,500 tickets whereas Torquay had sold 6,000.

Depending on how many exiled Torquay fans aren’t swayed by the lure of the Champions League Final being televised, the Yellow Army occupying the Stretford End is rumoured to fall below the 10,000 mark.

The pricing of tickets by the Football League has received criticism as seats with the best views are priced between £56 and £40. The cheapest tickets are £26, and if a lower than expected attendance turns up tomorrow fingers will be pointed at the high prices introduced by the Football League.

Torquay United manager Paul Buckle takes a fully fit squad on the 250-mile trip to Manchester and hopes to steer his club to their second promotion in two years.

The players took part in a high-tempo training session yesterday after being given three days rest following their semi-final exploits against Shrewsbury Town.

There is not much between the sides according to the bookies despite the Gulls having taken four points off Borough this season. United hope to repeat the performance that saw them beat tomorrow’s opponents 2-0 back in March at Plainmoor.

Whatever the tactics on the pitch tomorrow, Buckle’s men can be certain that the 12th man from South Devon will play his part as the Yellows aim to reach the third tier of English football.
