Nightrider Scheme

The popular NiteRider scheme offering discounted bus tickets to young people in Torbay aged 16-19 years old, has proven so popular that Stagecoach South West has agreed that they will extend the service until further notice.

The NiteRider scheme enables young people in the bay to unlimited bus travel on any Stagecoach Bus Service within the Torbay area from 6pm-10.30pm 7 Days a week.
The scheme was a trial back in December 2009, and was then reviewed back on the 1st May 2010. When Stagecoach South West had seen that over 2,000 young people had used the service they informed Torbay Youth Service that they would now keep the service until further notice.
Since this was announced back in May 2010, Stagecoach South West had announced figures that in excess of 7,000 young people have now used the service.
Torbay Youth Service sent out thousands of questionnaires to find out how people found out about the service, weather they have used it or not, results came back and found that:

64% of young people used the NiteRider ticket to access youth clubs and positive activities within the bay.
74% of young people were either ‘Very Satisfied’ or ‘Satisfied’ with the NiteRider so far.
Almost 95% of Young people that were asked said that they would use the NiteRider scheme again.
Michelle Hargreaves, Managing Director of Stagecoach South West said ‘We’re delighted to extend this offer to young people across Torbay, over the time it has been running we’ve attracted a lot more passengers and i hope many more will take advantage of this service’.
Torbay Councils Youth Service said ‘Cheap Transport around the bay is a priority for young people here. Torbay Council is listening to what they want and is working in partnership with organisations like Stagecoach South West to try and meet their needs’.
After Stagecoach made the announcements that they will be extending the service, we’ve been told by Torbay Youth Service that ‘Stagecoach will be keeping this great new service until further notice, however changes will be made on this new service’, however at this time they were unable to comment on what would be changing.
TorbayTalk asked a few young people across the bay what they thought the new changes would be, and about 95% of the people we asked thought the price would be going up, and 5% of people we asked thought the change would be the times of the new ticket. Stagecoach South West were unable to comment.

The Old “Torbay” Nite-Rider wasn’t available outside of the Torbay Area. However, As of May 1st 2011. Stagecoach South West Bus Have extended their service, to All across South Devon, However there are a few limitations. £2, the Price is now, and it starts from 7pm until the last service.
So, If you’re looking at leaving a tad earlier, then I would most likely suggest the Day-Rider, for only £4.70 (That’s what It is in Torbay – Not sure about Newton Abbot Way).

I’ve recently done a story on it: http://talktorbay.com/nite-rider-extended-for-better-or-for-worse

    All the best,
