Playday 2010 – Community fun for everyone in Torbay

Torbay Council in partnership with Torbay Leisure Centre is holding a fun free event on Wednesday 4 August to mark Playday – a national annual campaign celebrating children’s right to play.

Torbay Play Service has organised a host of free activities between 11am and 4pm. These include a giant inflatable assault courses, a bouncy castle, arts and crafts, Irish drumming workshops, archery, free sports sessions and fun games. A special feature this year is the Animal Show where you can get up close and personal with a range of reptiles and small pets.

Swimming sessions are £1 per person to encourage children to have fun in water as well as on land.

Children of all ages are welcome, but children aged under 8 years should be accompanied by an adult.

The Torbay Council Play team is pleased to be working in partnership with Parkwood Leisure Ltd to ensure there is plenty of space, come rain or shine. Previous Playdays have seen over 500 children joining in and organisers hope that this year’s event will prove just as popular.

Councillor Anna Tolchard, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “Play is an essential part of every child’s life and is vital to their development. Playday is an opportunity to get  communities together to support children’s play, and most of all to have a lot of fun in the process.

“We would like to encourage as many families, young people and local groups as possible to go along to Clennon Valley and enjoy a whole range of free activities.”

The theme of Playday 2010 is ‘Our Place’, which aims to tackle some of the restrictions faced by children wanting to play where they live. Everyone, young and old, is being asked to help create better places for everyone to live and play
