Torbados – A Town Of Wonderful Contradictions

In the unlikely event that you havent seen the video yet….here it is…Torbados by Hoodie BigCol & LadyV.

And now the latest video to storm the bay….’The Making Of Torbados’.

To quote ‘Hoodie’

Torquay. A town of wonderful contradictions. The natural beauty of the Bay and the glamour of the private yachts and cafe bars sit alongside a town thats a slave to its location. A holiday destination, needing to meet the demands the paying public place on it but also meet its responsibilities to its local population. Torquay is a great place to visit for all sorts of reasons. On a sunny day its a mini Monaco, bars and boats creating an enticing backdrop. But of an evening the town plies a slightly different trade, bars and clubs are the main event for Hen Parties, Stag nights and anyone else in need of a good time. The constant police presence however suggests not everyone always has the good time they set out for. Fights are commonplace, the expected nomality. Alcohol, people and the streets are abused in equal measure. Torquay has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the country. Torquay needs the money from the nights out to keep its economy going. Torquay has a morning after hangover thats more than just a headache. Torquay, Torquay, Torquay……………………………………. ……………………………

What do you think? A bit of harmless fun and comedy or unwanted negative press for the bay?

Amazing, I love it, but it’s also really sad that everytime I go back to my home town people say that Torquay’s got worse, it’s more violent at the weekend and the bars are all tacky chains with none of the live music or individuality that we enjoyed in the early 90′s….. where’s the soul? I love the wild beauty of the coast but it’s in stark contrast to the edgy commercialised nightlife. Bring back live music and pubs with some character!

Ahh, Torquay. Every word of this tune is true. A total hellhole, that used to be less of a total hellhole but a total hellhole all the same. So glad I left!

  11. Lee says:

Oh the irony. In the “making of…” video the vocalist says her 16 year old friend was giving birth and that they were also going out that night…
    I can see it now,
push…… ah it’s a baby boy. “Ere our mam – hold the baby – I’m off out to get pissed and laid again!”
