Torbay Council to ‘Think’ about bins in Preston

Old Bin Site

Old Glass Bin Recycle Centre in Preston, Paignton.

A Few years ago, Preston residents made massive complaints to Torbay Council regarding the noise of the Glass Recycle centre in the car-park on Torquay Road, Preston, Paignton. Torbay Council have found it difficult to find an alternative in the Preston area, and the nearest Glass Recycling plant for Preston residents is at Torbay Leisure Centre Car Park, Godrington.  So, Preston residents have shot themselves in the foot, as Torbay Council do not do collections of Glass, nor are you able to add glass into the Black / Green bins, and now residents are complaining there is nowhere to recycle glass.

Hollicome Park

We’ve been in contact with some Preston residents, and found that residents would like to have the Glass Recycling back in Preston, but not in the CarPark on Torquay Road, as people where making noise late at night. Our research has shown that Residents in Preston would like to have a Glass Recycling centre at the Hollacombe Park, Preston, Paignton.
Sadly, the beach and the park are not used as much as it was, with Park on the main Torquay Road, and a great walk to most Residents for Preston and Livermead, a great location for the glass recycling. Since the toilets were knocked down, due to lack of funding to support the unused toilets. The area at Hollacombe Park would be big enough to have Green, White and Brown recycling, and also plenty of room for Newspapers, Clothing and Plastics.

Purposed Area of New Recycle Centre

There is plenty of Parking on the main Torquay Road, and we’ve been told by Torbay Council officials that it is possible, and they would ‘think’ about the idea. In the meantime Preston residents are not able to recycle their glass and other materials unless they travel miles away from there homes.
The majority of people who live inPreston are Elderly people, who find it difficult to transport around the bay.
On the 6th September Torbay Council will be changing their recycling rounds and refuse collections to weekly since Torbay Council teamed up with May Gurney to make TOR2, throughout August residents of Torbay will be recieving new bins, and recycling bins and food waste bins to use. As May Gurney will now operate 80% of the rubbish collections for Torbay, where Torbay Council will operate 20%.
For more information about TOR2 and Collections, visit the Torbay Council website, or theTOR2 Website. Or call: 01803 402909.
