Torquay United Player Of The Season

GUY Branston has been voted the Torquay United Player of the Season for 2010-11.

The Pickler has been a sensation in the heart of Paul Buckle’s Yellow defence throughout the campaign, forming excellent partnerships with Mark Ellis and Chris Robertson.

His consistency and strength were recognised at the PFA Awards earlier this month, where he was selected for the League 2 Team of the Year.

Branston initially moved to Plainmoor in a loan deal from Burton Albion in January 2010 and immediately endeared himself to the Yellow Army with his committed performances in defence.

A permanent switch to TQ1 arrived last summer and it has been a fabulous season for the 32 year-old.

Branston was the strongest candidate in a race that epitomised the fantastic season United have enjoyed, with ten different players receiving nominations.

In a closely fought battle, Chris Zebroski was rewarded for an excellent campaign of attacking football by coming second in the poll. Zebs was also handed the trophy for United’s top goalscorer.

Captain Lee Mansell came third in a fitting tribute to the man who defines the special Yellow spirit with his every performance.

The Torquay United Young Player of the Season award for 2010-11 went to Eunan O’Kane.

Versatile forward O’Kane was chosen marginally ahead of team-mate in the Northern Ireland Under-21 squad, Billy Kee.

The talented O’Kane has been deployed in the full range of attacking positions this season and his terrific progress is symptomatic of the development shown by Buckle’s young squad.
